The acronyms and technical terms used on this website, what they mean and what they are for.

API: Application programming interface
A documented way for two systems to exchange information. It allows integration without changing each system internally.
AI: Artificial intelligence
Techniques that classify, extract, search or suggest based on data. Useful when applied to a specific problem, with limits and human control.
IP: Internet Protocol
The rules for addressing and routing data between networks. "IP transit" is a network's access to the rest of the Internet.
MPLS: Multiprotocol Label Switching
A technique used for private networks between sites. It keeps each client's traffic separate and allows critical traffic to be prioritised.
NIF: Tax identification number
The number that identifies a company or a person to the Angolan tax authorities.
OCR: Optical character recognition
Turns images of documents into searchable text. It requires quality control and human review of exceptions.
PDF: Portable document format
A file format for saving or sharing a document so that it looks the same on any device.
RAG: Retrieval-augmented generation
A way of building assistants that answer from retrieved documents and show the sources they used.
SLA: Service level agreement
Measurable commitments, such as availability and response times, written into the contract.
VSAT: Very small aperture terminal
A satellite antenna and equipment for sites with no terrestrial alternative.
WACS, SACS, SAT-3: West Africa Cable System, South Atlantic Cable System and South Atlantic 3: submarine cables landing in Angola
Submarine optical fibre cable systems connecting Angola to other continents.
Angonix: Angola's Internet exchange point
A place where networks exchange traffic directly within the country, without sending it abroad.
Mbit/s, Gbit/s: Megabits and gigabits per second
Measures of link speed. 1 Gbit/s equals 1,000 Mbit/s.
24x7: Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week
Indicates a service that is available at all times.
CSV: Comma-separated values
An open text format for tables; any spreadsheet can read it.
